Mental Health & Wellbeing

Mental illness comprises a wide range of disorders and varies in its severity. The effect of mental illness can be severe on the individuals and families concerned and its influence is far-reaching for society as a whole. Around 7.3 million or 45% of Australians aged 16–85 will experience a common mental health-related condition such as depression, anxiety or a substance use disorder in their lifetime.

Anxiety and depression affect our entire community. Around 3 million people in Australia live with anxiety and/or depression every day, while family, friends and colleagues watch a person they care about go through this experience. Seeking support from a health professional is often an important step in the pathway to recovery, but just as important are the day-to-day lifestyle choices that we make.
